Alabama library books go digital
February 7, 2011

Libraries across the United States are incorporating eReaders and tablets into their services. The Thomas B. Norton Public Library in Gulf Shores, Alabama, recently enhanced its services to its visitors by adding a variety of new tablets and eReaders to its facility, Baldwin County Now reports.

Thanks to a $5,000 Community Partnership Grant from Wells Fargo, the library was able to purchase five Apple iPads, three Sony eReaders, an Amazon Kindle and a Nook from Barnes & Noble.

According to the news provider, the library will offer classes throughout February and March to teach its patrons about various library technologies, including computers and eReaders. One technique technology users can employ is connecting a computer or a tablet to an HD-TV, LED monitor or HDMI projector to display presentations, videos or other media in high-definition clarity.

Additionally, the library set up an eLibrary through its website, which lets people use their own eReaders and tablets download content for free.

Tablets and eReaders are among the most sought-after technological devices for libraries and educational institutions. Many of these facilities have found they can use the technology to provide patrons with new and interesting educational resources.
