The Avon Senior Center in Avon, Connecticut, was recently the recipient of a bouquet of balloons and $1,500 - the latter of which will be used to purchase new iPads, the Avon News reports.
The grant was awarded through the Avon Education Foundation's iPads for Lifelong Learning program. According to the news provider, the center plans to purchase three new iPads, which it will use as part of a program for its senior residents.
Avon Senior Center coordinator Jennifer Bennett was reportedly astounded when she saw the AEF's Prize Patrol approaching. Bennett applied for the grant earlier in the year, with the intent of bringing the center into the 21st center.
According to Bennett, the iPads will be beneficial to members of the senior center who have vision problems. Additionally, the tablets can be used in conjunction with an HDTV, an LED monitor or an HDMI projector to display large, clear images and video.
The AEF also awarded several grants to local public schools, the Avon News reports. Thompson Brook School reportedly received more than $30,000 to purchase new speakers and classroom projectors.
